The Goddess Pilgrimage to Crete was developed by feminist thealogian Carol P. Christ, who led the tour for over twenty years. Before she passed away in July 2021, Carol asked Laura to take on leadership of the Goddess Pilgrimage, following the template Carol created (with some changes!) supported by guidance from experienced co-leaders Christina Nevans and Mika Scott. The two-week tour for women includes museums and archaeological sites, sacred ceremonies, swimming in the Cretan sea, delicious food, meetings with village women, walking and moderate hiking to visit mountaintops and caves that were sites of ancient worship. The physical aspect of the tour allows insight to take root in the body as well as the mind and spirit. The Pilgrimage seeks to deepen our understanding of the peaceful, egalitarian, art-loving, Goddess-worshipping civilisation of Bronze Age Crete, and an embodied experience of the many remnants still perceptible in the landscape, culture, and art of the island today.
