This series of four classes (for women) explores a basic repertoire of 17 traditional women's ritual dances, with a focus on their inherently therapeutic qualities and their healing power. They are living dances from Greece, Armenia, Kurdistan, and Turkey, as well as Rom dances from Albania, N. Macedonia and Kosovo, which I have learned in their places of origin. With roots in early Neolithic cultures where circle dancing originated, these dances embody a worldview of sustainability, community, and reverence for the earth.
Simple yet profound, these ancient dances celebrate the sacredness of the natural world, and help us reconnect with ourselves, each other and the cycles of life. The simplest dances tend to be the oldest, with the greatest healing power (and are also easiest to learn via Zoom!). When we don't have to think about our steps, we can focus on the advanced inner work of these dances: kindling life energy, receiving insights and wisdom, and sharing the healing power with others. We find this way of working to be deeply rewarding and nourishing, even via Zoom.
Participants in this series will be invited to join an existing ongoing monthly practice group afterwards if they wish, where everyone knows the dances already and we simply dance them together with a greater focus on their healing power. The first Healing Power Review Gathering after the series will be on Sunday April 11, 2021.
